Let us all stand against injustice

In the wee hours of noon, when all of us were in our respective classrooms, a sudden noise broke out and diverted our attentions.

Rushing down, we saw girls standing in front of the principal’s office and taking out a procession. There slogan was ‘we want justice’…..justice for Shivani, a first year student who was slapped by two teachers just because she was using her cell phone.

No doubt it’s mentioned in the prospectus that the use of mobiles is prohibited in the college, but that doesn’t mean the teachers get down to physical abuse.

Humiliated, all in tears, poor Shivani rushed to her friends for support, whose admission form had been cancelled too by the principal. Despite of taking any serious step against the two teachers who brutally slapped the poor female, the principal started threatening the girl.

The two teachers even went to the extent of saying that if Shivani reports anything to the principal, then they will make false reports of her being pregnant.

Teachers, who have held our hands from the very first day we entered college, guided us through out…laughed with us, celebrated with us…I wonder how can they raise their hands on us and that too for such a petty thing.

The strike grew bigger and bigger with every passing second and we witnessed the whole college downstairs. The teachers and members of the council were trying to control the girls, but did not succeed. The principal too kept asking the girls to cool down in order to settle the matter, but failed in her effort to do so.

That was not the end of it. Soon the media people arrived and the strike grew BIG. The whole mob rushed out of the college gates and started protesting… horns from the kinetics, girls shouting from all corners, police men trying to control the traffic, was the site outside MC-DAV college, Chandigarh.

I am a student of the college, but I would like to stand against injustice. And I am sure that all you GenXians too will support us in our mission.

At these high times when the college left us, slapped one of those several beautiful cute angels…this is not fair…this brutal act must be met with an impetuous action…. and that’s STRIKE….all of you join us tomorrow at 8:30 am outside MCM…to show the authorities that they can’t take us for a ride.

And for all of you outside Chandigarh or who can’t make it to the strike, are most welcome to send their comments regarding this cruel act of the teachers on GenX.

MCM-DAV Strike

Its very disheartening to hear the news of strike in MCM-DAV college. This college is known for its discipline and when reputation of the college gets affected by few students, its all hard work done by seniors and aluminae of the college gone waste. The issue could have been resolved within the college by passive resilience. And students should know the reality before taking such an step.Although I agree with those who condemn the slapping of a student but maintaining discipline is equally important. And there is no other way to maintain discipline than to enforce it atleast untill people become self disciplined. And why students failed to understand the impact of this strike on the reputation of college. They are the ones who have done the hard work to make this college among best colleges in our city and now they are themselves tarnishing its image.Instead of making the slapping of a student a issue, students should try to convince Principal that use of mobile phones should be completely banned for one and all in the college campus including Principal and teachers. And i am sure if convinced properly, she will agree.I hope such strikes will not take place in atleast some of the best colleges which are known for their discipline.

i agree

i certainly agree with you on this. Any kind of extreme steps should be the last resort after everything else has been tried.

By the way, it also reminds of an incident where a 63 year old professor has been killed by the students in Ujjain. That shows the other extreme and involvement of political parties(rather gangs) in the student communities which is also a very bad thing to happen.

Politics during studies has to be separate than taking up a full fledged career in politics..

Hope the GenX understands all of it.. and tomorrow is a better day!

Cheers!

Shivani's behaviour was not proper

My dear Swati and Ms.Gunika you are highly mistaken and don't know both the side of the news. You guys are just empathising yourself with the girl. Today i went to MCM college and got to know that the girl named"Shivani" for whom you all are protesting behaved very badly with the teacher. And i don't think they did anthing wrong. Just empathise yourself with teacher and you'll also agree that they haven't done anything wrong. And as far as justice is concerned i don't think Shivani is going to get anything good out of this. D.P.I. and all C.T.U. are all in favor of teachers. Still lets hope for the best.
